THE ROADRUNNER, ANOTHER EPOCH MAKING BRAINCHILD OF IBM
The supercomputer that has been developed under the project titled Roadrunner by IBM has grabbed the title fastest supercomputer of the world as it can perform more than 1000 trillion operations per second, twice as fast as the predecessor the Blue Gene system. The system has been developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory in Mexico for Mexico for the National Security Administration of US Department of Energy, uses open source Linux operating system as the platform and costs more than $100 million. It will be used for the security and the reliability of the US nuclear stockpile and for the research into energy, human genome science and climate change.
